We’ve been in Iceland for a little over a week. Things have happened back home that we weren’t a part of: Halloween, daylight savings time, Michigan football’s big goal-line stand against Minnesota (although Stratton was up very late one night doing a quiz for one of his last MBA classes so I guess he caught it). Life has continued on at home without us. Our friends and family are going to work like always. Friends are grabbing brunch on Sundays. And we are in Iceland.
Speaking of Iceland. Wow…we love it here. We have spent a lot of time in Reykjavik, which has been a lot of fun. I love getting to know other cities and we now know our way around here. No GPS for us anymore! What an amazing feeling. We’re here in a completely foreign country and we feel at home.
We’ve been thinking, we might make it home one day, at least for a little while. More on that later.
We were so lucky to meet an amazing host through Couchsurfing who has already become a great friend of ours. He lives close to the city center so we just walk a few minutes and we are in the middle of it all. Even when we leave for a couple days, which we have two different times, he opens his place up for us when we get back. Seriously, how great is that.
There have been some bumps in the road. More on my part though. We’re out here with the mission to grow our business internationally. Even though we have built the business in California and Washington, Juice Plus is in 25+ countries, so we figured we would combine our desire to travel with finding motivated people who want to also take hold of their lives and follow their dreams.
I’ve had difficulty making that a priority. I LOVE traveling and all I want to do is explore. There is definitely plenty of time to do that, but I’ve taken a lot of time out of our schedule for sightseeing. My photography bug is taking over. My itch to shoot beautiful places is calling me. So it has been an eye-opening experience for me to get down to business and use the sightseeing time wisely.
And wow, we have seen some amazing places. We’ve gotten to spend some more time in places that we rushed through before, and ended up finding a few new gems as well. Iceland is full of them.
Oh. And you know what else is amazing. The Northern Lights. Yeah. We’ve seen them. Twice. Once in the Snæfellsnes peninsula coastal town of Stykkishólmur in the pitch dark and another last night outside of our window, right in the middle of the city. Pretty spectacular.
We’ve decided we definitely want to live here for a little bit….probably during the summer. Stratton would love to have a job taking people on off-roading excursions. He wants to go off-roading all the time anyways, why not get paid to do it in a place that we love? One day.
I’m not going to lie. Sometimes I question, what are we doing? Did we make a mistake? As much fun as we’re having, did we make the right choice?
But we just keep going. We’re going to keep going. Because we are creating our own lives. And that includes following our hearts and sometimes involves a little bit of risk.
And our hearts are telling us to travel, see the world, and experience life from the driver’s seat. We’re all in.
Next stop: Oslo, Norway on Thursday.
